Tasks Concept, Wireframes
DISCLAIMER: This project was part of an interview challenge and had to be completed in one day. The results are not connected to a railway company.
Briefing
The railway company's problem is, that there are a lot more passengers on public holidays than usual, many of them carrying bicycles. The trains are overwhelmed on the main routes from Berlin to the Baltic Sea,many passengers are stressed.
The goal of the project is to develop a web tool that can be used for a retrospective analysis of the holidays based on historical data rights. TheRailway company is mainly concerned with how many passengers travel at what times of the day. Also the number of bicycles carried is important. The web tool should guide the railway employees in deciding whetherat rush hour they should use more trains to keep overcrowding within limits.
On the basis of this briefing, create an initial concept, which is also a basis for internal discussions as well as for staff to have an initial direction for the project. Remember that the customer only has very personal digital experience, so the concept must be displayed explicitly. As part of the processing of this challenge, it can be rejected thatall rights data are available. If it makes conceptual sense, can also include data that is not directly managed by our customers.
ANALYSIS
After sorting the most important requirements from the briefing and the first research, it became clear that both the display of the number of passengers on certain (holiday) days at a particular station station would be important as well as the number of bookings in specific train train connections, since both analyses can draw important conclusions about the capacity of trains and stations.

As shown, the four different factors (number of passengers , holidays, times of day, bicycles ) in the web tool, various different drafts were sketched and a first designs were sketched and a first approach through wi reframes and and visualizations were developed.
ANALYSIS
After sketching ideas, the layouts were selected which would make the tool as easy as possible to use. To arrange all bookings in trains in a clear way,  bar charts represent the numbers of bookings in trains and line diagrams the numbers of passengers in stations.and passenger numbers Railway stations are shown using line diagrams. The bar charts show the bookings between selected train stations, which are shown on a line below. Therefore the capacity of the whole way is represented in one visualization.
The user can sort the data in the tool via two functions, to get insights to work with further. These functions can be selected via a menu at the top of the screen. Both functions have filters to select from in order to get the analysis and results in a list. The lists show cards with the different data visualizations inside. As a next step, the user can select a card to get the detailed view.
WIREFRAMES

The first wireframes show how structured the layout of the tool is. Both functions have the filter at the same position, making it easy to use. The results  of the daily overview are shown in a line diagram, more data will be shown when selecting the card.
After filtering the train connections, the total number of bookings for different trains for the selected day can be analysed. When choosing a card for more information about a train, the data shown datails for booking classes and bicycle parking spaces so that they can be analyzed more precisely.
SCREEN DESIGN

The visualizations show the more detailed view of the webtool , where already known styles and and functional patterns are applied and the customer has a sympathetic
impression of the tool and can quickly and can quickly familiarize themselves with the tool.
All functions that execute an interaction by click are marked in red, which means that the system can be learned quickly. The daily workload shows, after input of the date, the selection of a time frame and the start of the route, the number of passengers at the station. Departures can be easily read from the diagram and are indicated by red
red dots and the corresponding train train information. When clicking on a filterbox, a list pops up which shows proposed answers. There is also the option to select the date via a date picker, which includes also holidays.
The date sorting by train connection shows a list of results for the respective day after the selection of the origin and destination station as well as the date and optionally also the type of train. In this list, a train with bookings is with bookings. When selecting for more information, the total bookings are divided into different classes and bike bookings and the intermediate stops are shown. Basic bookings in light blue indicate 2/3 of the available seats to show up to which point the occupancy would be unproblematic. Medium blue indicates full occupancy , dark blue with an exclamation mark indicates over occupancy. In addition, the reservations can be displayed.
